A 21st Century Garden
Rescued from virtual dereliction, this former country house estate has been re-invented as a world class hotel, spa and resort.
The dilapidated gardens were transformed to include a formal garden which forms the focus of the entire building complex and a walled garden north of the property.
Picking up on the original 18th and 19th century layouts, Balston & Company re-designed the Formal garden to create a 21st century garden that recognised and built on what had gone before and which made an effective counterpoint to interior designer Martin Hulbert's, of Fox-Linton Associates, room layouts and character inside the building.
Sculpture has an important place in the gardens with excellent pieces by Nathalie Decoster and Geogory Ryan of pears, apples and walnuts.
The traditional four-quartered layout walled garden has been devised with hedges around each quarter which allows for tennis courts and the swimming pool to be discreetly incorporated.
Our involvement included the planting of the formal garden, constructing the car par and ancillary areas.
