2014 QEOP Canal Park
The Canal Park covers approximately 1.2km of linear parkland along the Lee Navigation Canal, at the confluence of the Hertford Union Canal, and covers an area of 4.8ha from the Eastway to Old Ford Lock, bookended by the wild woods of Wick Woodland and Old Ford Island.
We commenced work in April 2014 and completed the programme by the first week of December 2014, ahead of schedule. The scheme wasn't completed without its challenges as we excavated former foundations of an old timber yard and sweet factory. We came across two un-exploded bombs and called upon the Army to de-fuse and take them away to Hackney Marsh to expode. It was not un-expected that we could potentially come across UXBs, so prior to the commencement of the works, full operational health and safety training was put in place for our operatives on the procedure for coming across a UXB and for evacuation.
As we completed the works, we put up wooden fencing to protect the soft landscaping over the winter months until it matured. We finally handed over responsibility for maintenance to the London Legacy Development Corporation in the spring of 2016.
