Canary Wharf London

Canary Wharf is one of London's two main financial centres, the other being the traditional City of London.

With around 14,000,000 square feet (1,300,000 m2) of office and retail space, and approximately 90,000 people working in Canary Wharf, it is home to the World or European headquarters of numerous major banks, professional services firms and media organisations. Willerby Landscapes has had a commercial relationship with The Canary Wharf Group since 1989, with the completion of hard and soft landscaping across the estate, the supply of security features, roof gardens and the BALI Grand Award winning Jubilee Garden built on top of the Canary Wharf Underground station.

Immense care has been taken to ensure Canary Wharf is a green and pleasant place to be for all who work in or visit the district. This has involved careful planning and design which has involved the planting of;

The fountain in Cabot Square is computer controlled and is capable of performing a variety of movements. A sensor detects the wind strength and adjusts the water height accordingly to ensure that passers-by are not soaked in windy conditions.

Our relationship continues by providing specialist services when required, either replacement lawns, trees or such as at Christmas time where we install the Cabot Square Christmas Trees.

Christmas 2015

With the expansion of Canary Wharf business district, 2015 saw us install 8 Christmas Trees; 4 in Cabot Square, 3 alongside the new Crossrail development and 1 above Reuters Plaza steps. The Cabot Square trees weighed close to a tonne and were 40ft tall.

Careful planning is required to ensure the delivery of materials, traffic management and Health & Safety being paramount, as at weekends the Canary Wharf shopping malls are extremely busy leading up to Christmas.

Installing the trees required the services of a self-erecting crane to position the crates, which hold the trees, the ballast infill and then the lifting of the Christmas trees into the crates. We provide a 12 man team to erect the trees and hope on the day that the wind is not too strong; something which is a bit of a challenge as the tall buildings in Canary Wharf can create wind tunnels.
