The Willerby team are pleased to have received three awards at the 2008 BALI National Landscape Awards:

Chavasse Park, Paradise Street Project, Liverpool
Grand Award
Principal Award: Hard Landscape Construction Cost over £1.5m

The Paradise Street Development is a major regeneration project covering approximately 42 acres which when complete, will form the major part of the redevelopment of Liverpool City Centre. The Paradise Street Project includes the construction of over 30 individual buildings providing 1.65 million sq. ft. of new shops, hotels, housing, leisure, and other facilities. Amongst robust new travel plans, new bus stations, and shopmobility strategies, a new underground car park is being created to serve the development.

At the heart of the pubic realm development a new public park has evolved - comprising in excess of 20,000m sq. of soft and hard landscaping, the park cascades over 3 storeys of parking, retail and internal public space. Physically forming the park (as a roof garden), working within tight time frames and achieving levels of quality inherent in the Design and Client Teams aspirations has brought into being a dynamic and versatile, yet striking, town centre urban park.

RBS Headquarters, Gogarburn, Edinburgh
Principal Award: Grounds Maintenance Commercial (Limited Public Access)

Gogarburn is a large campus style development set within a mature landscape setting, located to the west of Edinburgh city centre.

Gogarburn provides a world class working environment for 3,250 employees and is the World Headquarters for the Royal Bank of Scotland. The campus, set in established grounds, is accessed from the A8 main road. The main building comprises six business houses arranged around a central street layout offering a range of retail outlets and meeting spaces. Included on the campus are nursery, leisure facilities, a 300 seat conference centre and business school.

A high emphasis is placed on environment and social responsibilities by the Bank. In order to service these requirements regular inspections are carried out by external ecologists. The estate is adjacent to the main flight path into Edinburgh airport and daily bird surveys are undertaken with the information being feed through to BAA operational centre. Three burns, Gogar, Ashley & Mill run through the site and a detail water quality monitoring has been developed with SEPA.

The Bank employees are actively encouraged to use the extensive grounds which encompass sports facilities and an extensive series of jogging tracks. There is limited public access to the grounds and with the campus operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week maintenance operations need to be carefully scheduled to ensure minimal disruption.

RBS as a business expect world class service as part of their corporate strategy. At Gogarburn they extend these expectations to the maintenance of the estate.
